Orkney Field Club's New Year Ramble, Monday 1st January 2024 - Meet in Stromness for a 4 mile-ish wander around The Loons and over Brinkies Brae. We will keep our eyes peeled for Hen Harriers quartering the fields, Short-eared Owls gliding over the rough pastures and Kestrels hovering above the road verges. We will look out for any flowering plants to participate in the BSBI's New Year Plant Hunt, as well as trying to identify a few trees without the help of their leaves. Meet/park at Burnbank, Hillside Road, Stromness, KW16 3HR (What3Words: deeper.balanced.cools; Grid ref: HY257104) for a 10.30 start. Please dress in suitable clothing and sturdy footwear for the occasion (there will be a little rough terrain).
